Clinical chemistry analyzers are usually chosen on three things: how many tests you run in a day, whether you need to control your own reagents, and whether electrolytes belong on the same instrument. This guide compares every Mindray chemistry analyzer we distribute in the Philippines against those three questions.
The three questions that decide it
1. What is your realistic daily workload?
Throughput is quoted in photometric tests per hour, not samples per hour — one patient sample may be eight or more tests. A panel-heavy outpatient load reaches a quoted ceiling much faster than the sample count suggests. Our range runs from operator-paced semi-automated testing up to 600 tests per hour, or 800 with electrolytes.
2. Open or closed reagent system?
A closed system runs the manufacturer's matched reagents and calibrators. You get traceable, reproducible results and simpler troubleshooting, and you commit to that reagent supply. An open system lets you run third-party assays and price-shop reagents, at the cost of doing your own validation. The BA-88A is open. The BS series is closed — except the BS-600M, which is closed but keeps five open, user-defined channels for assays outside the standard menu. That combination is often the practical answer for a laboratory that needs one or two specials without giving up a validated closed workflow.
3. Do you need electrolytes on the same analyzer?
An Ion-Selective Electrode (ISE) module adds sodium, potassium and chloride to the same run instead of a separate electrolyte bench. It is optional on the BS-240, BS-240Pro and BS-430, and integrated on the BS-600M. It also raises effective throughput noticeably — the BS-240 goes from 200 to up to 400 tests per hour with ISE fitted.

BS-240 vs BS-240Pro: the pair most people weigh up
Both are fully automated closed-system benchtop analyzers, and both reach up to 400 tests per hour once the ISE module is fitted. The differences are in the base rate and in what the instrument holds.
- The BS-240 runs up to 200 photometric tests per hour, up to 400 with ISE, and handles serum, plasma, urine, whole blood and CSF in a compact footprint.
- The BS-240Pro runs up to 240 tests per hour, up to 400 with ISE, built around a gratings photometer, and holds up to 100 sample positions and up to 100 reagent positions.
In practice the deciding factor is usually onboard capacity rather than the 200-versus-240 figure. If your menu is broad and you are reloading reagents through the day, the Pro's larger reagent and sample capacity is what changes the workflow. If your menu is narrow and steady, the BS-240 covers it.
When a floor-standing analyzer earns its space
The BS-430 holds a constant 420 tests per hour, rising to 626 with ISE, with STAT priority so urgent samples jump the queue. The BS-600M reaches 600 tests per hour, or up to 800 with its integrated ISE reporting Na+, K+ and Cl-, and uses continuous rack-based loading with STAT priority. Both are a different class of purchase from a benchtop unit — they need floor space, water and a workload that justifies them. The honest test is whether your current analyzer is the bottleneck at peak hours, not whether the headline number is bigger.
Semi-automated, and HbA1c
Not every laboratory needs full automation. The BA-88A is a semi-automated photometric analyzer with an open reagent system, a 340–670 nm range and an 8-position automatic filter wheel, supporting endpoint, kinetic, two-point kinetic and fixed-time methods. It suits clinics, low-volume laboratories, and labs that want a backup bench for when the main analyzer is down.
For diabetes monitoring, the H50P HbA1c Analyzer is a dedicated instrument rather than a general chemistry analyzer: up to 50 samples per hour, first result in about three minutes, with a 40-tube autoloader supporting random access and closed-tube sampling.
