Urinalysis is where throughput figures mislead most often. This guide compares the three Mindray urinalysis analyzers we distribute in the Philippines, and explains why the fastest number on the page does not belong to the most capable instrument.
Read the throughput figures carefully
The UA-600T is quoted at up to 600 tests (strips) per hour. The EU-5300 Pro is quoted at approximately 160 tests/hour. On paper the semi-automatic unit looks nearly four times faster. It is not doing the same job.
- The UA-600T reads dry-chemistry test strips only, using a reflectance photometer. There is no sediment examination. Anything the strip does not report still goes to a microscope.
- The EU-5300 Pro and EU-5600 Pro perform chemistry and sediment in one pass, using digital flow-cell imaging with an onboard camera to capture and classify formed elements. That is the work that would otherwise be done manually at a microscope.
So the honest comparison is not 600 against 160. It is strip reading against strip reading plus automated microscopy. In hybrid mode the EU-5300 Pro runs at approximately 70 tests/hour — and each of those replaces a manual sediment review.

What the imaging actually gives you
Both EU Pro analyzers capture full-color images of each sample and classify the formed elements with an identification algorithm, so results can be reviewed against the actual image rather than a number alone. The EU-5600 Pro captures up to 60 full-color images per sample at 2K resolution and presents dry-chemistry, formed-element and physical results together.
For a laboratory currently running strips on one bench and a microscope on another, that consolidation is usually the reason to move — not the tests-per-hour figure.
When the UA-600T is the right choice
If your workload is routine screening and sediment review is either infrequent or already handled elsewhere, the UA-600T covers it: up to 11 parameters on a reflectance photometer with a 5.7-inch color touch screen, at a fraction of the footprint and cost of a hybrid analyzer. It is a strip reader, and for many clinics that is exactly what is needed.
